Helicopter tour to Shumshu Island and Khodutkin hot springs

Shumshu Island is one of the Kuril Islands, where the Japanese deployed the Kataoka Naval base, adapted for basing surface forces up to cruisers. They created a strong anti-amphibious defense on the island, consisting of anti-tank ditches and escarpments, as well as pillboxes and bunkers connected by deep and extended underground galleries.

Traces of the events of 1945 are still visible on the island. There are many fortifications: pillboxes, trenches, anti-tank ditches, warehouses left by the Japanese. The remains of tanks, planes, shells, cartridges, aviation bombs are scattered around the island, it is all pitted with craters from bombing.
