Volcanoes of Kamchatka. Hike

To see the amazing Kamchatka, it is not necessary to exhaust yourself with long marches, fords and difficult passes. On this hike, we will find the Gorely volcano with steaming craters, lava caves, thermal springs, huge waterfalls, incredible Martian landscapes, traces of local bears and funny European faces that strive to get into your plate.

We will relax in the hot springs in the village of Paratunka, and then climb the Avacha volcano of the same name (2741 m). The route ends with a trip to the famous Khalaktyrsky beach, where we will watch the sea lions peeking out of the water, and the bravest can swim in the invigorating waters of the Pacific Ocean.

We have redesigned and improved the route, taking into account the feedback from the participants, replaced long crossings with crossings and added comfortable overnight stays. If you have 2 weeks and a desire to see the iconic places of Kamchatka, this hike is for you!

For children from 10 to 12 years old, the cost is 65,000 rubles. Cannot be combined with other discounts.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Group meeting. Transfer to Gorely volcano

We meet with the group and guides at the airport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

If time permits, you can arrive 1-2 days earlier to adapt to jet lag, take a walk around the city or go on a boat trip.

We are traveling by an all-terrain vehicle (vakhtovka) towards the southern group of volcanoes of Kamchatka.

Our first goal is to camp at the foot of the active Gorely volcano. We set up a tent camp, have lunch, get acquainted.

Today we are tired from the road, so we try to rest more and go to bed early. The coming days will be especially busy, so we need to gain strength.

    • We're driving 90 km.
  • Day 2 - Gorely Volcano
  • Day 3 - Passage to Mutnovsky volcano
  • Day 4 - Waterfall in the canyon is Dangerous
  • Day 5 - Transition to Mutnovskaya geothermal power plant
  • Day 6 - The day
  • Day 7 - Transfer to Paratunka. Overnight at the recreation center
  • Day 8 - Transfer to Avacha volcano
  • Day 9 - Avacha Volcano climbing
  • Day 10 - A spare day for climbing the Avacha volcano. Transfer to Khalaktyrsky beach
  • Day 11 - Khalaktyrsky beach. Transfer to the hostel

Tour organizer's comments

This route is of medium difficulty in terms of physical activity, and any physically healthy person can complete it. However, a lot depends on your physical and psychological preparation: whether you look into the shoes of the person ahead and count the time until the next stop, or enjoy the surrounding beauty and enjoy the hike.

There are only two crossings under a backpack, the distance is up to 15 km per day. However, if you have never gone hiking and there is very little physical activity in your life, then we recommend that you sign up for an active tour without backpacks, or prepare for a hike.

Running, swimming, skiing, and contrast treatments are great for preparation. Six months before the start of the hike, we recommend avoiding the elevator and walking up and down the stairs.

In late May and early June, we will hold a free training trip in Moscow and St. Petersburg. We will work out the technique of fording the river, walk 10-15 km under a backpack, check the equipment.

We strongly recommend participating in this check-out. If you have never been hiking with backpacks, we recommend going on a weekend hike at least to test your strength and equipment.

It's important to know

Personal equipment you need for the tour

It is very important to choose the appropriate equipment for hiking in Kamchatka.

Kamchatka's climate is characterized by extreme diversity and weather instability due to its geographical location, the influence of the surrounding seas and the Pacific Ocean, the movement of air masses, and terrain. In other words, the weather can turn from hot summer to cold winter in one day and vice versa.

It can rain for several days in a row, and snow often falls on volcanoes in September, so you need to take the choice of hiking equipment very seriously.

Properly selected equipment is the key to your good mood and comfort on the route. Personal equipment should weigh no more than 9-13 kg and occupy about 65% of the backpack volume.

Don't forget that you still have to carry some of the public equipment and modules with food. The average volume of a public module is a full large bag of groceries from the supermarket, it should easily fit into your backpack.

  • the jacket is windproof and waterproof (membrane);
