Stop at Honkasalo Island for 30 minutes, take gorgeous photos of the frozen landscapes of the Ladoga skerries.

3. Visit the Karelian Zoo. We invite you to visit the only zoo in Karelia, where you can get acquainted with a huge variety of fauna of Russia and other countries. The animals and birds live here in a picturesque place.

The zoo is surrounded by Karelian forest and is located on a preserved natural landscape. The natural topography of the earth, untouched trees and artificial reservoirs are home to a large number of ungulates, birds of prey and birds listed in the Red Book.

Touch rare species of animals, pet affectionate ponies and feed the deer. Yes, with a few exceptions, animals can be petted and fed with special treats that you can purchase at the entrance — they will be very happy to receive such attention.

Transfer to Ruskeala Mountain Park (30 km).

On the way, stop at Tohmajoki Waterfall.

This is a very picturesque place, the waterfall flows into a small lake closed from all sides by high shores, from different shores of which there are different views of the waterfall.

Marble Canyon tour.

During this tour you will get acquainted with the unique natural landscapes. For more than 70 years (until the middle of the nineteenth century), decorative light gray marble was broken out in local quarries to decorate the temples and palaces of St. Petersburg, the fountains of Petrodvorets, the columns of Tsarskoye Selo and Gatchina. Magical lakes with clear water in a beautiful Ruskeal marble bowl will make an indelible impression.

The new route of the Mountain Park, the Underground Lake, has become a real pearl of Karelia in the Year of Ecology.

The route was created at the intersection of geography, geology, hydrology, ecology, and mining history. Its length is about 800 meters.

It consists of a system of mysterious tunnels and a large columned marble hall with a mysterious lake. These are artificial dungeons, but they also have a vibrant natural component. Ruskeala tunnels and mines were created more than a hundred years ago by Finnish craftsmen.

The total length of the mine workings was several kilometers (so far only a small part has been explored). The voids formed as a result of intensive marble mining resemble the ancient temple complex in their scale and aesthetics. Moreover, it is half filled with water.

From July to December, it is an underground "lake of dreams" (in sheer marble walls with a misty haze and a shaky surface), and in winter and spring it is the "Palace of the Snow Queen" (with a transparent ice floor and frosty decorations).

In winter, due to the special microclimate, the water turns into thick transparent ice, which does not melt until July. Nature creates here bizarre combinations of ice stalactites and stalagmites, transparent draperies.
