Reboot in Karelia, 8 days

On the day of the start of the tour, meet your guide at the train station. A sign with the name of the tour. Meeting with train No. 018A (Moscow — Petrozavodsk). If you arrive earlier, wait. If you arrive by later trains than train No. 018A, transfer for an additional fee to the location of the group, with partial loss of the program, without recalculation. 

Please note the check-out time at the hotel: check-in after 15:00, check-out before 12:00! 

When visiting holy places, please observe the dress code (women - skirt, headscarf, covered shoulders. Men — trousers (not shorts)). 

On Kizhi Island, Valaam Island, all excursions are allowed only by the staff of the relevant museum. 

Please note that you can stay in the Ladoga Skerries National Park only by paying a fee for visiting the park and obtaining a permit! The cost of staying at the Ladoga Skerries NP is 350 rubles per day (the price is indicated for 1 person). Each participant of the tour issues a permit and makes the payment themselves.

The company reserves the right to change the order of excursions without changing the program as a whole.

Excursions to Kizhi Island and Valaam Island depend on weather conditions. In case of force majeure (storm, fog, malfunction of water transport), excursions are canceled with subsequent recalculation. 

Failure to appear or be late for more than 10 minutes by the time of departure of the day trip for any reason is equivalent to a refusal and does not entail a refund of the funds transferred to the Contractor, except for the fact of illness, documented from a medical institution. 

Refusing to continue along the route as part of a group tour and returning to the starting point of the tour on your own for any reason is equivalent to voluntarily abandoning the tour. Weather and climatic factors that do not threaten the life and health of tourists cannot be grounds for a reasoned refusal of the tour and are considered as a voluntary refusal. 

1. Excursion to Kizhi Island.

Transfer from Verkhovye to the comet pier in Petrozavodsk.

A trip by "comet" to Kizhi Island (1 hour 30 min. one-way crossing of Lake Onega. On the island — 4 hours). Kizhi Island is the pearl of Zaonezhye, located among the Kizhi skerries. The main attraction of the island is the museum of wooden architecture, in the center of which is the ensemble of the Kizhi cemetery. During the island tour, you will visit a traditional peasant's house, learn a lot about Karelian crafts and traditions, listen to the bells and see one of the main Orthodox shrines of the Russian North — the Church of the Resurrection of Lazarus. Transfer to the Upper Reaches (duration 7-8 hours). 

2. Rafting on the Shuya River + Lunch-picnic. 

Transfer to the meeting place of the group. Arrival at the beginning of the rafting trip is the Yumanishki threshold (40 km from Petrozavodsk). Division into crews, equipment, safety instructions. We're going sailing. Shuya is waiting for our adventures: M. Yumanishki – por. The curve is a pore. Big Tolly (2-3 square meters), 3 km. Pokatushki on the threshold of a Big Crowd. Continuation of the rafting. A picnic is a field lunch in nature. Transfer to the Upper Reaches (duration 5-6 hours). 

3. Excursion trip to Ruskeala Mountain Park. 

Transfer to the meeting place of the group. Bus trip: Petrozavodsk – Ruskeala Mountain Park – Petrozavodsk (260 km one way, 4 hours on the way). On the way, we will stop at the Akhinkoski waterfalls (Tokhminsky waterfalls cascade), the place where the movie "And the dawns here are quiet" was shot. An "Eco-trail" has been developed at the waterfalls along suspension bridges — passage along it is not included in the price of the tour and is paid additionally, if desired, directly on the territory of the waterfalls (if technically possible). 

Upon arrival at the Ruskeala Mountain Park, there will be a land tour "The Road of Mountain Masters". The old and abandoned quarry of stone mining, which has been developed for almost three centuries, is now equipped for tourists to visit. You will see a unique creation – a huge bowl carved by human hands in an array of marble strata, which stretches from north to south for 456 m, and its width is 109 m. Take a walk along the extraordinary lake, which is framed by gentle and steep cliffs of light gray marble, reaching a height of 25 m above the water mirror. 

Free time in the mountain park. 

Return to Petrozavodsk, transfer to the Upper Reaches (duration 12-13 hours). 

4. Excursion trip to Valaam Island + Ruskeala Mountain Park. 

Transfer to the meeting place of the group. Bus trip – Petrozavodsk – Sortavala – Ruskeala Park – Petrozavodsk (260 km, 4 hours on the way). Meteor ride – Sortavala – Central estate – Nikonovskaya Bay – Sortavala. 

Sightseeing tour of the Central estate of the Valaam Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery. Lenten lunch in the monastery refectory. Boarding a motor ship and transfer to Nikonovskaya Bay. Guided tour of the Gethsemane and Resurrection hermitages. Transfer to Ruskeala Mountain Park, land tour of the park. Transfer to the Upper Reaches (duration 18-20 hours).

5. Excursion trip to Valaam island. 

Transfer to the meeting place of the group. Travel by bus – Petrozavodsk – Sortavala – Petrozavodsk (260 km, 4 hours on the way). 

Meteor ride – Sortavala – Central estate – Nikonovskaya Bay – Sortavala. 

Sightseeing tour of the central estate of the Valaam Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery. 

Lunch in the refectory (lenten). 

Boarding a motor ship and transfer to Nikonovskaya Bay. Guided tour of the monastery's hermitages (according to the technical capabilities of the monastery). Transfer to the Upper Reaches (duration 16 hours).

6. "Wonderful places of Ladoga region: Ruskeala + Ladoga skerries". 

Transfer to the meeting place of the group. Transfer to the most beautiful corner of Karelia – Northern Ladoga region (260 km, 4 hours on the way), in the Ruskeala Mountain Park. On the way, stop at the observation deck at the Akhinkoski waterfalls, where footage from the film "And the dawns here are quiet" was shot (if technically possible).

Transfer to Sortavala. Departure to Ladoga skerries. A group boat trip along the Ladoga Skerries is a great opportunity to forget about the hustle and bustle of the city, be alone with the amazing nature of the North, and enjoy the extraordinary diversity of the natural landscape of the Northern Ladoga region, where sandy and pebble beaches alternate with huge boulders covered with "ram's foreheads" and steep cliffs, forming landscapes of extraordinary beauty. 

The route is circular, passing around the islands of Kivisaari, Laivatsaari, Karnetsaari with a landing on the island of Honkasalo with a visit to the viewpoints of the open Ladoga. 

Return to Petrozavodsk. Transfer to the Upper Reaches (duration 14-15 hours). 

Additional medical insurance is not included in the price of the tour. The compulsory medical insurance policy is valid on the territory of the Russian Federation. If you wish, you can apply for insurance on the website of a Large Country without commission directly from insurance companies.

The climate in Karelia is temperate continental. The summer is cool, but prolonged heat is possible. The weather changes frequently, with thunderstorms and heavy rains. The water in rivers and lakes warms up to 18-20 °C in late June and July. White nights will last until the middle of summer.

The weather in Karelia is changeable, the wind may suddenly increase, and a storm may break out on the lakes. This is especially true of the Onega and Ladoga lakes. In this regard, there may be changes in the excursion programs related to movement on the water.

When there is a large wave on Lake Ladoga, high-speed vessels do not enter the route for technical reasons, but are replaced by slow-moving ones. Therefore, the travel time to Valaam Island is up to 2 hours one way (instead of 50 minutes), and the excursion program on the island is shortened or changed (if it is impossible to get to a particular hermitage by water due to weather conditions).

The period from early May to mid-June is particularly dangerous due to the activity of encephalitic ticks. Prepare in advance for a trip to Karelia during this period — get a preventive vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis, take with you a special ointment, as well as clothes and hats that cover all parts of the body as much as possible.

Mosquitoes are found everywhere from the end of May to the beginning of September, but they are especially active from the beginning of June to the middle of July. Woodlice are most active in the morning and evening. Midges, which look like flies, attack during the day. Horseflies are most active on hot sunny days. Don't forget the mosquito and midge repellent.

Snakes are found in some areas of Karelia. They are non-aggressive, but we recommend that tourists refrain from walking on tall grass and choose closed shoes for traveling.
