One of the most famous resorts in Staraya Russa was Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, who, after several summer vacations in the city, bought a cottage here. This was Fyodor Mikhailovich's first property in his life. According to him, they "organized their own nest," where he, his wife and children happily came in early summer and did not want to leave in late autumn. 

Dostoevsky worked a lot and intensively in Staraya Russa. "Demons", "The Teenager", Pushkin's Speech, as well as a significant part of the last novel "The Brothers Karamazov" were written here, in which you can find a description of the real streets and houses of the city, stories and events from the lives of some Russians.

Transfer to the former Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery (local history Museum of Staraya Russa).

The monastery traces its history back to the end of the 12th century. Four stone churches have been preserved from it, the oldest of which was founded in the XV century. During the Soviet era, the monastery was closed, and since the 1970s, a museum of local lore has been operating in the monastery's premises.
