Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Departure from Moscow. Borovsk — Obninsk

    07:00 Gathering of the group in Moscow, VDNKh metro station, parking lot to the right of the Kosmos Hotel.

    07:15 Departure by bus to Borovsk.

    Borovsk is a provincial town with a 700—year-old history and a "parallel world" created by a retired artist, the oldest street artist in Russia.

    Sightseeing tour of Borovsk.

    The old buildings will immerse you in the atmosphere of the early 20th century, and Vladimir Ovchinnikov's modern murals will help you touch the world of poetry and tell you about the most vivid stories of the past.

    In the program:

    • ancient settlement — until the 17th century, there was a wooden fortress here, which gave rise to the city;
    • Borovsk is the center of the Old Believers and the home of the "fierce protopope" Avvakum and his spiritual daughter Boyarina Morozova;
    • the merchant page of the city's history: the Shopping area with the Cathedral of the Annunciation, the merchant buildings of the 18th and 19th centuries with rich estates, in one of which Napoleon stayed.;
    • an introduction to the work of "Borovsky Banksy". The most famous mural is the Globe of Borovsk, on which the artist depicted the city's landmarks and historical figures who made Borovsk famous.

    The urban life of the 20th century is closely connected with the biography of the "father of world cosmonautics" — K. E. Tsiolkovsky, who lived and worked in Borovsk for 12 years.

    Visit to the K. E. Tsiolkovsky Apartment Museum.

    There is a museum in the house, and a self-taught scientist rented an apartment on the second floor for a year and a half. At that time, he was 20 years old, and Konstantin Eduardovich began his teaching and scientific activities within these walls.

    You will see an exhibition about the scientist in the museum-apartment.:

    • You will learn about his personal life and career, how he became the founder of theoretical cosmonautics without an education.;
    • look at the reconstruction of the creative laboratory at the end of the 19th century, a homemade tin lamp and an aerodynamic device, crafts in the form of kites and a recreated classroom where the lessons of a school teacher took place.

    Departure to Obninsk.

    Obninsk is Russia's first science city, the birthplace of the peaceful atom, where the world's first nuclear power plant began operating. A city of physicists and lyricists, where history and advanced scientific discoveries are closely intertwined.:

    • A 103-story skyscraper-high weather tower helps researchers study various weather conditions.;
    • The Morozovskaya Cottage, or Turliki Manor, is a unique monument of Art Nouveau architecture, the oldest building in the city, and a witness to important historical events.

    Lunch.

    An excursion to the Obninsk Cheese Factory is a unique opportunity to see the full cycle of cheese production. The workshop is located behind glass, and an experienced guide will reveal the secrets of cheese making, how milk turns into hard cheese.

    Consolidation of theory by practice: tasting of delicious cheeses of various varieties, including from farmers of the Kaluga region.

    Visit to the production of jams.

    The company's specialists will introduce you to the production cycle, from the preparation of raw materials and cooking of fruit purees to canning and packaging. You will learn about quality control and ingredient requirements, and the guide will tell you about the technological features and the history of the brand.

    At the end, we will get acquainted with the production of gelato (video) and tasting: pre-prepared gelato and a variety of jams and confections.

    Departure to Kaluga.

    Accommodation at the hotel.

    Dinner at the hotel/city restaurant.

    Many thanks to “Big Country” for this wonderful tour. The entire trip was organized exceptionally well: the hotels, meals, and transportation were all excellent. But the real highlight of the journey was our tour guide, Denis!!! Honestly, without him the trip would not have been nearly as memorable. Visiting so many churches and historical sites without meaningful context would have quickly become monotonous. Most of the local guides simply rushed through the program with dry facts and dates, almost like a school lecture. Denis, however, made everything come alive. Even before we arrived at each destination, he was already sharing fascinating stories and background information on the bus, which helped us appreciate the places so much more once we got there. Not a single person was late for the bus in the mornings! Everyone was eager not to miss his stories!!! He has an incredible knowledge of the history and geography of the region, and he could make even the scenery outside the window interesting!!! Listening to him never felt tiring because he spoke with such enthusiasm and passion!!! For the last two days we had a different guide, and the contrast was huge - unfortunately, it just wasn’t engaging at all. To sum it up: excellent organization, comfortable travel conditions, and an outstanding guide like Denis made this trip truly special!!! I only wish there were more professionals like him.

    I really enjoyed the trip. I learned a lot more about my country and its history, and visited many historic cities and monasteries. It’s an experience I will remember for a long time. Everything along the route was well organized. Special thanks to our guide, Zhanna, who accompanied us throughout the trip!! She made everything so engaging and interesting. Wishing her all the best.
