In the Barents Sea, you can find minke whales and humpback whales, which more often than other whales come to the coast of the Kola Peninsula in search of shoals of fish. With very good luck, it is possible to meet with killer whales, fin whales, narwhals, beluga whales and even blue whales.

On our trip, we will go out to sea in search of whales, get acquainted with Murmansk, admire the northern nature and fjords, visit the main locations of Teriberka and taste fish soup and crabs in a real Pomeranian house.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Sightseeing tour of Murmansk. Icebreaker "Lenin"
Arrival in Murmansk, independent check-in at the hotel.
We recommend arriving in the city no later than 13:15.
14:00 Lunch in a cafe in the city, gaining strength.
Sightseeing tour with a visit to the Lenin icebreaker.
The largest city in the Arctic Circle, the base of the icebreaker fleet, the hero city, the sea gate of the Arctic.
Murmansk was founded only in 1916 and cannot boast of a large number of historical attractions. But still, this is an interesting and original region, attracting the splendor of the harsh northern landscapes.
There are a lot of key moments in the history of the state associated with the city, so the city is interesting, both aesthetically and historically.
On a sightseeing tour you will visit the main attractions:
memorial to submariners who died in peacetime;
The Church of the Savior on Waters;
lighthouse;
Kursk Submarine Memorial;
memorial to the Defenders of the Soviet Arctic during the Second World War;
monument "Waiting";
monument to the Defenders of the Arctic — Alyosha monument.
Visit the nuclear icebreaker Lenin. The legendary giant ship with a nuclear installation, which had no analogues in the world before, was developed in the USSR in the 50s of the last century.
It was used to provide navigation along the Northern Sea Route. Since 1989, the icebreaker, which has served for 30 years, has been permanently parked in the Murmansk seaport.
During the tour, you will see the engine room, the mess hall, the medical unit and other rooms.

Day 2 - Teriberka. Going to sea in search of whales

The path lies through several natural areas, fascinating views of the tundra.
The Pomeranian village of Teriberka is located in the Kola district of the Murmansk region, on the banks of the river of the same name. The first mention of the camp dates back, approximately, to 1523. A.Zvyagintsev's acclaimed film Leviathan was shot in this village. The village is located 125 km from Murmansk.
On the way to Teriberka, we will make two landmark stops.
The largest wind farm in the Arctic Circle.
57 huge wind power plants have been installed here in the middle of the endless tundra of the Kola Peninsula.
The height of one tower is 84 meters, each blade is 65 meters. Wind turbines were installed in such a way as to minimize the number of roads and the change in the natural landscape.
A high hill with Seids.
The landscapes here are unique and amazing. In front of you, the tundra is in the palm of your hand, you can't see the edge. We will see seyds – structures made of stones, built by the Sami, as a rule, in sacred places. And you must make a wish!
In Teriberka itself, you will find unique natural attractions, art objects and scenery from the filming of films and TV series.
During the tour you will learn the history of the Teriberka settlement, see the present of the village and its future!
You will see a beautiful waterfall that carries its stormy waters directly into the ocean, the purest lake.
Depending on the weather, visit the Dragon Cave and definitely walk along the beach of stone dragon eggs.
You will feel the real breath of the Arctic.
You will see a cemetery of old wooden ships, a former military airfield.
You will see the skeleton of a sperm whale;
Take a walk along the beautiful Teriberki Bay. A stunning sandy beach and a beached fishing boat, a throne, a swing and other objects.
Those who wish will try the northernmost beer.
We will have a picnic in a picturesque place and then go in search of whales in the sea!
The sea photo walk will last 2-3 hours.
This is an opportunity to see whales, killer whales, dolphins, seals and other marine life.
Whales and killer whales come to the coast of the Kola Peninsula after herring, capelin and cod.
We will see the beauty of Teriberka from the sea, visit several bays of the Barents Sea, enjoy the views of sea rocks and reefs, and see various marine animals.

Day 3 - Fjords and western waterfalls. Pomeranian meal
Breakfast at the hotel is buffet style, rooms are free until 12:00.
At about 09:00 we have breakfast at the hotel, meet with the guide.
Off-road departure along the western coast of the Kola Bay.
The route runs through the sites of WWII military operations towards Norway.
During the trip, you will observe how smoothly the natural belts change and even drive through the real tundra.
On the Titovka River, waterfalls in a cascade of small height, but very spectacular and powerful. Depending on the month, the landscapes will be unique.
The Valley of Glory Memorial Complex is the place where the front line passed and where in 1941 Soviet troops fought fierce battles with the Nazi invaders.
It was here, as a result of heroic defense and offensive, that the enemy's plan to capture Murmansk, an important strategic facility providing access to the Barents Sea, was thwarted.
At the end of the tour, we will warm up in a real Pomeranian house and taste freshly caught seafood (Pomeranian meal): fragrant fish soup from several species of fish, Kamchatka crab, sea urchins, scallop, dried and smoked fish, cod liver, boiled potatoes, freshly baked bread, tea from a samovar with cloudberry jam. You can take your favorite drinks with you.
Departure time from Murmansk airport is not earlier than 18:00.

It's important to know

Rains in May are a frequent occurrence. If you're not lucky with the weather, it could be sleet. Therefore, an umbrella is useful in Murmansk, and a raincoat on trips. One umbrella is not enough on the coast of the Barents Sea, or anywhere in Kirovsk. It is always windy in the Murmansk region, and it literally tears out of your hands.

Since it is better not to count on southern warmth in Murmansk either on May holidays or at the end of the month, it is better to take more warm clothes.

The main thing you need to have is a windproof hooded jacket and rubber boots. Without the latter, you cannot get, for example, to the Battery waterfall in Teriberka (of course it depends on the weather, take more warm clothes, a scarf, mittens, a hat, it is better to leave them in transport in good weather than freeze in strong winds).

Here is the most important thing to pay attention to:

You will need a good windproof hooded jacket and ideally it was waterproof.
If there is no waterproof jacket, be sure to take a raincoat, as the umbrella will not withstand the north wind and will take your time and hands.
A scarf and a hat will never be superfluous, especially at sea!
It is necessary to have warm, preferably woolen, socks; gloves.
From the beginning of the May to June holidays, you will need waterproof shoes or take rubber boots, you will thank us when you walk to the Battery Waterfall in Teriberka.
Preferably: a full set of thermal underwear (top and bottom) (the presence of this kit will make the trip more comfortable and enjoyable).
Fleece jacket.
Take additional batteries for your camera, phone or video camera, because they run out very quickly in the cold.
A personal first-aid kit with medicines for colds and fever, headache, stomach, as well as individual medicines if you take something regularly.

Take a hat and scarf to go out to sea at any time of the year! It is often windy in Teriberka + at sea the temperature is felt 5-7 °C lower than on shore.
