Teriberka. Whales in the Barents Sea

Air and railway tickets are not included in the price of the tour. You can purchase them yourself or contact us for help.

Meeting time in the city and at the airport (transfer can pick you up by agreement from the city and airport). The meeting time is negotiated for each group. Usually in the range between 12 and 15 o'clock. The meeting and return time can be changed if the entire group (without exception) has tickets with arrival at an earlier time and departure at a later time. You can get from the airport to the center of Murmansk by public transport or by taxi. Organizational information with details will be sent to all participants in advance.

It is worth considering that we are going North, besides to the sea. The weather is very unpredictable. 

It is better to dress warmly and take off something from yourself than to freeze.

The temperature is +5...+10°C, but the wind, and sometimes rain (in November there may be snow) can lower the temperature "feels like", and you need to be prepared for negative temperatures (-5°C). 

Temperature:

• in May, October, November -5...+10°C;
• in June +5...+20°C;
• in July and August +5...+22°C;
• in September, 0...+15°C.

It is also necessary to take into account the weather conditions at sea, in case it is impossible to go to sea, the boat trip program can be postponed to the next day or canceled (with a refund of the cost of renting a ship).

We recommend taking tickets with arrival on the day of the start of the tour or the day before, then you will have the opportunity to see Murmansk (we will tell you what is more interesting to visit). When buying, keep in mind that usually the meeting of the group at the airport is in the range between 12 and 15 o'clock. After booking, the organizer sends information with recommended flights. And we can bring you back to the city or airport (arrival time at the airport in early May and October-November is 14:00-14:30, from mid-May to the end of August 18:30-19:00, in September 15:30-16:00). The meeting and return time can be changed if the entire group (without exception) has tickets with arrival at an earlier time and departure at a later time. Tickets can only be purchased by agreement with the tour organizer! If the delay of your flight is 1 hour or more, then the group may not be able to wait for you — the program will begin to shorten. Therefore, in case of a long delay and delay for a group transfer, you may need an individual transfer to Teriberka, which is paid additionally (from 2,500 to 6,000 rubles per person). Important: tickets to Murmansk and back can only be purchased in consultation with the tour organizer!

From September to November, we conduct this tour with a reduced access to the sea — 3-5 hours, so as not to freeze our guests. The season of great geomagnetic activity also begins in September, which means that the chance to see the Northern Lights in good weather tends to 99%. If you're lucky, you'll be able to see both whales and the aurora.

The trip is suitable for adults and children over 8 years old (accompanied by adult relatives). The upper limit of the age of participation is determined individually (if you are over 60 years old, you need the advice of the organizer).

At the basic rate, accommodation in 2-3-bed rooms with a bathroom on the floor and a shared kitchen-dining room. 

At the "improved" rate, 2-bed accommodation in cabins or cottages with room amenities. 

Be careful when booking!

Breakfast is included in the price. Lunches, dinners (usually 2 of them) in the hotel restaurant on the menu (600-2000 rubles at a time), due to the workload of restaurants on weekends and holidays, it is necessary to pre-order meals in advance. Lunch on the ship at sea, in case of a boat trip of more than 5 hours is included in the price.

There is an opportunity to meet whales at any time — we observe them all year round. 

Some whales live permanently in the Barents Sea, and some approach the shores on the way of migration. 

In our experience (we have been organizing such tours since 2018), activity can be in November, May, summer months, etc., that is, it is not predictable. 

It should be understood that the sea is not an aquarium, and whales are not trained animals that come by whistle.

Unfortunately, we cannot say in advance whether there will be a meeting with whales, how many of them there will be, what they will do (show their fin, tail or jump out of the water). 

The probability of encountering whales is quite high — in the 2021 season out of 30, only 2 groups did not see whales, in the 2022 season out of 53 groups, 3 groups did not see whales (for various reasons — 1 time they did not meet, 1 time the sea was closed by border guards due to exercises, 1 time going to sea was impossible due to In the 2023 season, 11 out of 73 groups did not see whales (did not meet or there was a storm).

The program may be changed, activities may be reversed (in the worst case, canceled) due to weather conditions that are very severe and poorly predicted in the North. The club's guides will make every effort to implement all the points of the program.
