Manpupuner Tour: 7 wonders of the Northern Urals

The trip in the format of a helicopter expedition is conducted on the territory of the sacred Mansi lands and involves visiting the most famous locations in the Northern Urals: the legendary mountain range of stone idols - Manpupuner, the place of power and energy anomalies — the stone gates of Mount Otorten, Dyatlov Pass and the ridge of Mount Dead (Kholatchakhl).

You will also enjoy hiking along the original path of Igor Dyatlov's group, rafting on the Lozva taiga River, fishing, exploring caves where stalactites form entire ice sheets in cold remote caves, as well as getting acquainted with the way of life and legends of the small northern peoples — Mansi.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Man-Pupu-Ner – Otorten – Dyatlov Pass

Arrival at the helipad in Nyagan (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug).

Waiting for dispatchers and crew team reports on loading.

Loading equipment and groceries into the helicopter.

    Boarding.

Flight to the Man-pupu-ner plateau (Rep. Komi) lasting about 2 hours.

Arrival of the flight at the helicopter pad of the Pechora-Ilych Nature Reserve on the Manpupuner plateau.

An official one-day permit is issued for each group.

The helicopter waits for the group at the landing site for 1.5 hours. The excursion part on the plateau includes an inspection of the stone pillars of weathering, an informative lecture, an active part of the movement to the pillars (from the helipad - 880m), photo sessions and video shooting.

Traffic for the purpose of inspecting stone idols is regulated and is carried out only along paths made of crushed stone specially equipped by the reserve. From here, the nearby mountain ranges and the Belt Stone of the Main Ural Range are clearly visible.

The view of the mountain peak of the Pecherya-talakh-chakhl ridge (Pecheryatalyakhsyakhyl) is very picturesque.

The time spent on the Manpupuner plateau is limited to no more than 1.5 hours.

Rest in the gazebo at the hut of the hunters — workers of the biosphere reserve, return to the helicopter. Champagne for the expedition members on the occasion of the visit to the 7th Miracle of Russia.

On the plateau, a light lunch is provided for the group, pre-prepared by the chef, including sandwiches, homemade snacks and taiga herbal tea.

Boarding the group. Flight south along the mountainous part of the Ural range to the Dyatlov Pass.

Through the porthole window, you can see another visiting card of the Northern Urals — Mount Otorten, at the foot of which is the purest mountain lake Lunthusaptur (Lake of the Lonely Goose lane).

Helicopter landing at the Dyatlov Pass in the hollow of the Kholatchakhl ridge (Mountain of the Dead / Dead Mountain), where, according to legend, nine Mansi hunters died.

A group of nine UPI students led by Igor Dyatlov died at the same place (February 1959). The duration of the second part of the flight was 30 minutes.

Travelers spend up to 1.5-2 hours of extra time on the Pass (depending on weather conditions). After the end of the excursion part on the slopes of the Mountain of the Dead, the expedition participants descend along the trail to the forest area.

Blueberry and blueberry bushes (ripens in August), moss and dwarf birches grow on the slope of the ridge. Subsequently, the landscape changes, and the group finds itself in a world of motionless fir trees and mute stone placers.

Trekking participants carry personal and general equipment (sleeping bags, tents, and other personal items) on their own. For lovers of active trekking and hiking, an evening tourist lunch-dinner is provided (pre-packaged in individual hiking lunch boxes, a hiking menu /or a dinner consisting of an army ration pack).

A mobile hiking camp is being organized.

Evening and night rest around the campfire in a shared tent or individual personal tents.

The overnight stop is supposed to be at the famous tourist parking lot "Fork-Spoon". At one time, enthusiastic tourists, sitting under the Pass, waiting for the weather in the mountains, carved a meter-long spoon and fork out of wood.

Now this dining set has been supplemented with a knife and a corkscrew.

The Auspiya mountain river with crystal clear water flows next to the parking lot. The participants of the trip are unpacking their personal belongings, arranging an overnight camp (setting up tents, equipping a campfire tent).

The preparation of firewood for the evening campfire is carried out collectively, and every traveler takes part in collecting firewood.
