The fame of such cities in the region as Izhevsk, Glazov, Sarapul and Votkinsk goes even beyond Russia. It was here that Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Nadezhda Durova and Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov lived and worked at various times. In our itinerary, we have collected all the most interesting things about the ancient land of the Udmurts.

Day 2 - Izhevsk city tour, Ludorvay Museum Reserve, Kalashnikov Museum and Exhibition Complex.
Breakfast at the hotel.
Izhevsk, the "weapons capital" of Russia, sightseeing tour: you will see the Tsar Cannon, a replica of the one in the Moscow Kremlin; you will learn why Izhevsk has a monument to a crocodile and why the monument to Friendship of Peoples is informally called "Kulakova's Ski".
Among the most famous sights of the city: St. Michael's Cathedral, one of the most beautiful churches in Russia, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the building of the new circus, the zoo, the architectural ensemble of the Residence of the Head of Udmurtia and the Armourers Square.
Transfer to the Ludorvay Museum-Reserve.
Ludorvay Architectural and Ethnographic Museum-Reserve.
A visit to this unique open-air museum-reserve will most clearly demonstrate the main aspects of the Udmurt material culture.
The estates of the northern, central and southern Udmurts are located on the territory of the museum. The Besermyan estate, one of the most mysterious peoples of Russia, is also located here.
Not far from them are the houses of the Russian settlement "Ilyinka". The highlight of the reserve is a century-old windmill, brought here from the south of Udmurtia.
Return to Izhevsk.

M.T. Kalashnikov Museum and Exhibition Complex.
The main character of the museum narrative, Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov, is a kind of "starting point" from which the story of Izhevsk as one of the most important centers of Russian weapons culture is told.
All five generations of Kalashnikov family weapons were born at the Izhmash plant in a special design bureau. Mikhail Timofeevich lived here for the rest of his life, becoming an honorary citizen of Izhevsk and the Udmurt Republic.
The main exposition of the museum presents the national history, a retrospective of the production and new developments of small arms.

Day 3 - Tchaikovsky Estate Museum, Votkinsk city tour, Old Bygi
Breakfast at the hotel.
Transfer to Votkinsk.
Visit to the Tchaikovsky Estate Museum.
We will spend this day of the tour in the Homeland of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
We will visit the Museum-Estate, the place where he was born and raised, inspect the complex of buildings, completely restored in 1980, get acquainted with the basics of noble upbringing and traditions of hospitality in the Tchaikovsky family, and also walk along the embankment of Votkinsky Pond, which became the prototype of the famous Swan Lake.

Votkinsk is a small town founded in 1759 in connection with the construction of an ironworks.
Mining engineer Ilya Petrovich Tchaikovsky, the father of the great Russian composer, who worked as a production manager from 1837 to 1848, played a significant role in the development of the city. In the zarechnaya part of the city, opposite the factory, there are residential areas where interesting wooden buildings have been preserved.
We will also visit the monument to the anchor, the Votkinsk Dam, the monument to P.I. Tchaikovsky and V.S. Vysotsky, the Annunciation Cathedral and the Panteleimon Church.

Visit to the village of Starye Bygi, the capital of the Finno-Ugric world
The village of Starye Bygi was founded in 1588. The first residents came here from the village of Bektemyr-Purga due to lack of water. Among the dense forest, the men found a beautiful place with many springs. At the place where the first houses were built, thick moss grew — byg-byg nebyt zhui (thick soft moss). Hence the name of the village — Bygi.
In 2014, the village of Starye Bygi in the Sharkansky district became the first cultural capital of the Finno-Ugric world. The Finno-Ugric cuisine festival "Byg-Byg" is held here.

Day 4 - Sarapul, Bashenin's Cottage

Transfer to Sarapul.
Acquaintance with the merchant district town.
Sarapul is one of the oldest cities in the Kama region.
Due to its rich architectural heritage, it can rightfully be called "Udmurt Suzdal". And its rich history makes it one of the most attractive places not only in Udmurtia, but also in Russia.
N.A. Durova, A.I. Palshina, A. Einstein, A. Pankratov-Cherny, L. Orlova and many others are associated with this city on the Kama River.
Visit to Bashenin's Cottage.
Bashenin's cottage is one of the most beautiful buildings in Sarapul, carefully preserving the cultural heritage of bygone eras. The owner of this atmospheric merchant's mansion was a merchant, mayor P.A. Bashenin, who made a significant contribution to the development of Sarapul.

A wonderful tour with a rich and engaging itinerary. Our guide, Svetlana, was very responsible and did an excellent job, explaining everything in detail. I was pleased with both the hotels and the food. Adding extra lunches was a great decision; it made everything more convenient, and I especially enjoyed the Pomor-style lunch at the Pomor restaurant. The transportation was also comfortable and reliable.
