The appearance of the phenomenon of the "Russian manor" is associated with the cultural trends of the 19th century. It is an interweaving of artistic, social and everyday life, enclosed in an exquisite architecture.

In the Vologda province of the 19th century. there were more than two hundred estates, not all of them have been preserved, but many still delight the eye with their beauty.

In 4 days we will show you four cities at once with unique estates and stories of the Vereshchagin, Milyutin and Galsky families. You will also visit the Spasskoe-Kurkino estate.

The world of the Russian village

In the Museum of Ethnography, you will be greeted by friendly hostesses, and they will tell you about the life, customs and traditions of Belozer in the local dialect.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Departure. Ustyug Iron
07:00 Departure from the metro station "Dybenko Street", St. Petersburg.
Transfer to Ustyuzhna.
Lunch at a cafe in Ustyuzhna (extra charge).
Sightseeing tour of Ustyuzhna.
Ustyug Iron (now Ustyuzhna) was first mentioned in the Uglich Chronicle in 1252. The city was known as the weapons center of the Russian state and was famous for its gunsmiths.
It was in Ustyuzhna that the lattices for the gates of the Spasskaya and other towers of the Moscow Kremlin were made. This area was famous for its rich deposits of marsh iron ore.
This city is also known for the fact that the incident, based on the plot of N. V. Gogol's famous comedy "The Inspector General", took place in Ustyuzhna.
Transfer to the village. Danilovskoe.
Visit to the estate of Vologda noblemen Batyushkov.
The only memorial house of K. N. Batyushkov in Russia.
The estate, built in the early 19th century, was the home of the famous Russian poet, whose work was admired by Alexander Pushkin.
The name of Alexander Kuprin, a friend of the last owner of the Batyushkov estate, is associated with the Batyushkov memorial house.

Excursion to the Vereshchagin House Museum.
This house has preserved the memory of two brothers, one of whom was the world—famous artist Vasily Vereshchagin, and the other, no less famous, Nikolai Vereshchagin, the founder of the Russian dairy industry.
The furnishings of the house were restored according to the memories recorded in Vasily Vereshchagin's book "Childhood and Adolescence". The house also exhibits authentic works by Vasily Vereshchagin.

The Milyutin Estate.
The owner of the house was Ivan Andreevich Milyutin, a merchant, a public figure, and the Cherepovets mayor.
Despite his status, he lived very modestly. Maxim Gorky called him a "white crow among the Russian capitalist crows."
While serving as the head of Cherepovets, Milyutin did a lot for the city: industrial enterprises were opened under him, and quite a lot of funds were allocated for the needs of education.
It was under his leadership that Cherepovets began to be called "Northern Athens" and "Russian Oxford."
The overall architecture of the house resembles eclecticism.
The classic style of the first floor, and the wooden second floor and the veranda are made in a pseudo-Russian style.
The Galsky Estate.
Another name of the estate is "Gorka". It got its name due to its location on the high bank of the Sheksna River.
In the center of the estate is a two-story wooden mansion built in the first third of the 19th century. The architecture shows harmony, finely drawn details.
Some of the outbuildings have also been preserved to this day.
The estate passed into the possession of Lev Nikolaevich Galsky in 1848 as a dowry for the daughter of A. I. Kudryavy.
The Galsky family is an ancient family of the Novgorod nobility, which traces its history back to the XVI century.
Each room in the house conveys its own mood: the ladies' chamber, the ceremonial state hall.
There are two exhibitions in the house: objects of ethnography from the private collection of A. A. Germanovich, and on the second floor there are objects of noble life.

The Belozersky Kremlin is the main pearl of the city, which you will see after visiting on a guided tour.
You will also find a moat and earthen ramparts of the XV century, a fortress – monument of defensive architecture (the place of shelter of the Moscow treasury), historical ponds, a bridge over the fortress moat of the XIX century, a panorama of the city and the White Lake, a memorial sign to the Belozersk soldiers who fell on the Kulikov field, the Transfiguration Cathedral.
Thematic tour at the S. S. Orlov Museum "Smelling of gunpowder lines".
In the building of the country's only memorial house-museum of the talented poet-veteran, winner of the State Prize of the RSFSR named after M. Gorky, you will learn about the life and work of S. S. Orlov.
Together with the guide, visitors will be able to see the everyday life and life of that time through the prism of one person's life.
The S. S. Orlov Museum is a place where unique things, documents, photographs, and books of the talented poet-veteran are kept.
Each hall is unique, it tells about the most significant, and sometimes crucial stages of the poet's life.
Interactive program "How parents lived, and we were blessed" at the museum "Russian hut".
In the Museum of Ethnography, you will be greeted by friendly hostesses and invited to the world of the Russian countryside of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
In a cozy rustic setting, in the local dialect, they talk about the life, customs and traditions of Belozerye, which allows you to immerse yourself in the past, get acquainted with folk signs, with the history of the holidays, with the customs and traditions of their holding in Belozerye.

The manor belonged to the landowners Rezanov-Andreev and in the 19th century was considered one of the largest and most beautiful architectural ensembles of the provincial manor culture of Vologda region.
The Rezanov nobles were large landowners. In the period from 1828 to 1832, they owned 139 villages and villages in four counties of the Vologda province).
The Rezanov-Andreev family included such famous people as Generalissimo A.V. Suvorov, writer Turgenev, Field Marshal Kutuzov).
The manor is considered the most artistically decorated manor house in Vologda region.
Return to Vologda.

I'm so glad I chose the 'Across the Expanses of Perm the Great' tour in July 2024. It was a high-quality, engaging, and thoughtfully designed journey through the entire Perm region. The trip was full of fascinating discoveries: ancient monasteries, unique museums, the distinctive Permian animal style and wooden deities, the history of salt production and the Stroganovs in the Urals, and much more. The natural beauty of Parma was breathtaking: dense forests, countless rivers, mountains, and even an ice cave. The hotels were comfortable, and the breakfasts and lunches were tasty, often featuring elements of local cuisine. Traveling in a small group made the experience even more enjoyable, after all, it's usually seasoned travelers who venture to the Perm region. One special moment was when we all got to bake and taste traditional gingerbread made from an old recipe, for many of us, it was a first. A wonderful tour with a rich and engaging itinerary. Our guide, Svetlana, was very responsible and did an excellent job, explaining everything in detail. I was pleased with both the hotels and the food. Adding extra lunches was a great decision; it made everything more convenient, and I especially enjoyed the Pomor-style lunch at the Pomor restaurant. The transportation was also comfortable and reliable.
