The mysterious trails of the Terektinsky ridge

We continue moving towards the sources of the Bolshaya Terekta River.

After a simple ford and a snack by the river, it is necessary to overcome the Ilgumen pass (2306) and descend to the sources of the Baijera River.

On the way to the pass, Lake Terektinskoye and the town of Ilgumen (2618) are visible.

In good weather, the outlines of the town of Uchemdek, the highest on the Terekta ridge, are also visible on the rise.

The path begins with an ascent to the pass into the valley of the Katyrgar river (2229), then a little further up to the top of 2522. Here you can see one of the Ilgumen lakes and the city of Ilgumen in all its glory.

From here, there remains a little more than one and a half kilometers of travel and about 170 m of uncomplicated climb to the top of Ilgumen (2618).

After climbing to the top of Ilgumen, descend to the camp through the Ilgumen pass along the already familiar road.

A wide, well-trodden path leads down the picturesque valley of the Baijera River and, after a simple ford, gives way to a barely noticeable path that gradually goes into the very thick of the forest.

Here you need to make your way through thickets and windbreaks with almost no path to the river Maga, along which there is an old shepherd's road.

After entering the shepherd's road, all that remains is to climb along the river to the forest border.

Overnight in a clearing under the pass.

The lakes, hidden among the numerous spurs and bordered by the sheer walls of Uch-Enmek, suddenly open up to the eye in all their insane glory.

The fantastic view will fascinate and delight both beginners and experienced travelers.

The day begins with a climb to the already familiar pass.

After a snack on the pass, all that remains is to go down into the valley and set up camp.

If the weather is clear, you can see the highest mountain in Altai and all of Siberia, Belukha, from the pass and on the descent.

Radial walk along the ridge separating the valleys of the Tikhaya and Yamanushka rivers.

Here you can take a look at the entire past and future path from above, standing at the top to enjoy the view of the beautiful lakes that are hidden in mountain basins, feel cut off from the whole world, go down to Lake Yamanushka and plunge into it to wash away the fatigue accumulated during the hike.

Descent along the Chernaya Terekta river through a picturesque valley to the already familiar old bridge.

Along the river, you can see stone remains, somewhat reminiscent of the famous Lena pillars.

After a snack at the bridge and a descent along the Bolshaya Terekta river to the village of Terekta along a familiar road – car delivery to Ust-Koksa.

In the morning, equipment is handed over and an excursion to the village of Verkhny Uymon, one of the oldest villages in the Ust–Koksinsky district.

The village was founded by Old Believers about 300 years ago.

There are two museums in the village: the N.K. Roerich Museum of Local Lore and the Museum of Old Believers.
