New Year in Kargopolye

10:00 a.m. Brunch.

Departure to Kenozersky National Park (90 km, 2 hours on the way). Kenozersky Park is a specially protected natural area, an island of the Russian way of life, traditions, and culture. A unique natural monument is the continental divide of two oceans: the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans. A walk to the highest point in the district – Khizhgora, to the church of Alexander Svirsky, from the belfry of which a wonderful view opens.

A walk through the architectural park "Kenozerskiye biryulki", in which the monuments of wooden architecture of the Kenozerye are recreated – chapels, huts, outbuildings in miniature.

Rustic lunch in the "Handmade hut" with local pickles, "royal fish" – ryapushka, pies from the Russian oven, herbal tea and cranberry juice.

A trip to the village of Lyadiny, where the multi-headed Epiphany Church is located with an intricate semicircular porch-gulbishche, which is not found anywhere else. A walk through the village, a visit to the ethnographic museum "Lyadinskoe uzorochye", where objects of peasant life and linen crafts are collected.

Bus and walking expedition to the "Oshevenskaya parish". The village of Oshevenskoye is an outstanding historical and landscape monument of the Russian North. Residential buildings in the old layout organically coexist with chapels, churches, and the monastery complex. Artifacts of pagan culture have been preserved here.

In the village of Saunino, an inspection of the church of St. John Chrysostom (XVII century). Inside the temple is covered with a picturesque ceiling – "painted skies". The hexagonal bell tower of the XVIII century gives the ensemble a complete and unique look.

A rustic lunch of Kargopol cuisine. Bread and pies from the Russian oven – everything is like grandma's. Simple and surprisingly delicious food: rich soup and fish "in the north", pickles, and porridge "Oshevenskaya".

Visit to the exhibition "The Sixth Day of Creation" in the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ (XVI century). The exhibition presents the "painted skies" of the XIX century.

Excursion to the Center of folk crafts "Bereginya" with a master class on modeling Kargopol clay toys.

The end of the program. Return to the guest house.

09:30 Boarding the bus with your belongings. Drive to the opposite bank of the Onega River to admire the panorama of the city of Kargopol with its majestic white stone cathedrals.

A trip to the ancient residential village of Kalitinka is a small village located almost on the shore of the largest lake in the Arkhangelsk region – Lache. The mostly ruined remains of the stone church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the churchyard (1868), the 19th-century chapel of Frola and Lavra, located between two lakes, the chapel of Elijah the Prophet in the village of Sloboda with Old Testament paintings on the ceiling and the Holy Cross Chapel in the village of Sidorovskaya.

The village of Bolshaya Shalga, which is located 10 km east of Kargopol along the Nyandom highway. The modern temple ensemble of the churchyard was formed about 150 years ago and consists of an older wooden temple and a stone one, later, designed in the forms of classicism. The wooden church of Bolshaya Shalga dates back to the XVII century, but its western half with a warm chapel is actually even older. Standing to the south-east of the wooden, stone Church of the Intercession was built in the XIX century.
