New Year in the Elbrus region. Active tour

Every winter, the real Russian winter comes here. In the Elbrus region, a lot of snow falls, which is decorated with a shawl of fir and spruce in the gorges.

On the tour we will see frozen waterfalls, swim in thermal springs and try a real Caucasian narzan. We will walk along the snowy paths into the gorges above which the mountains of the Main Caucasian Range rise, as well as ride the cable car on Elbrus and Cheget! And we will also try real mountain tea and taste delicious pies with lingonberries, which are baked only on Cheget.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Meeting, thermal springs

    Until 11:30, the group gathers at the airport and at the railway station in Mineralnye Vody (near the main entrance from the city).

    Geduco thermal springs.

    We start the tour with a pleasant swim in the thermal springs.

    The Geduko complex has outdoor pools where you can swim in healing thermal water. 

    The water temperature reaches 50C and comes to the surface from a depth of about 4000 meters. 

    It's so nice to soak up in the hot pool when winter is outside and snow is falling.

    Bathing accessories (swimsuit, towel, slippers, hair clip) should be packed in a separate bag in advance and taken with you on the bus.

    Transfer to Baksan gorge (2.5-3 hours), check-in at the hotel.

Tour organizer's comments

The route is trekking and provides for walking through mountainous (rugged) terrain. This type of outdoor activity involves daily climbing and dropping heights (ascents and descents).

The route runs along snow trails and dirt roads. The routes will have an altitude difference of 200 to 500 m per day for three days.

Climbing up 200-500 m is about like climbing 65-160 floors.

The hotel is located on the territory of the Elbrus National Park, just 2 km from Mount Elbrus and the slopes of Polyana Cheget and Polyana Azau.

2, 3-bed standard rooms, in-room amenities, TV, Wi-Fi, towels are provided. You can ask the administrator for a hair dryer. There is no kettle, there is a refrigerator in the shared kitchen. There is a drying room for things. The hotel has a laundry room, billiard room, table tennis (these services are available for an additional fee).

Ski equipment rental, table tennis and billiards are available at the Terskol Seventh Region Elbrus Region Hotel (these services are available for an additional fee). There is no kitchen for tourists.

 Nalchik is 127 km away and can be reached via the A158 motorway.

It's important to know

Personal equipment you need for the tour
  • a winter jacket with a hood (required!). Daytime air temperature: -5...-12C;
  • fleece;
  • hat, gloves;
  • running trousers;
  • T-shirt;
  • lingerie;
  • tights, socks;
  • flashlights (gaiters, gaiters, shoe covers);
  • warm, waterproof walking shoes. The route runs on asphalt, on a trampled snow trail, on fresh snow;
  • trekking poles. Sticks significantly reduce the load on the knees;
  • physically strong and healthy tourists are recommended to have sticks with them;
  • tourists who have problems with knees, joints and overweight must have trekking poles;
  • if necessary, the club provides trekking poles for rent;

  • backpack for walking (15-20 liters);
  • toilet paper;

  • a thermos is required (volume 0.75-1 liter per person). In a thermos, every tourist takes tea for a walk;

  • shoe dryers. On walks, we walk along snowy paths, by the evening the shoes become wet, they need to be dried;
