The feast of 1000 lamps. Sightseeing tour to Kalmykia

The feast of 1000 lamps or Zul is the birthday of the Universe. Kalmyks are the only ones in the world celebrating this unique and amazing holiday.

But it is even more interesting that Zul for Kalmyks is also a new year and a birthday. The spiritual essence of the holiday is reduced, like much in Buddhism, to achieving harmony with the outside world, as well as inner harmony.

Become a part of this great day for the republic and immerse yourself in the unique culture of Kalmykia and its hospitality.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Hurul Syakyusn Syume. The National Museum of Local Lore named after N. Palmov. Sightseeing tour of the city of Elista

14:00 Check-in at the hotel on your own.

14:30-15:20 Lunch at the Kalmyk cuisine cafe (included in the price).

15:30 Hurul Shakyusn Xume is the embodiment of Kalmyk architecture and Tibetan traditions.

The temple is a twenty-meter two-story building with a superstructure in the form of a two-tiered pagoda. The building stretched twenty meters long, nineteen meters wide.

The central place of the ground floor of the Shakyusn-Xume is occupied by an altar and an almost four-meter statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, covered with gold.

One of the basic rules of behavior in the temple is not to turn your back on the Buddha, moving in the direction of the Sun.

Khurul is located on the outskirts of the city beyond its borders, on the way to the village of Arshan. The construction site was consecrated by the Dalai Lama XIV during his second visit to Kalmykia in 1992, and the temple itself was built in 1996.

There is steppe, winds around the Syakyusn-Syume, and only a few houses where monks live nearby.

16:30 National Museum of Local Lore named after N.Palmov.

The National Museum of the Republic of Kalmykia named after N.N. Palmov was founded on March 25, 1921 and is the only museum where the history, culture and art of the Kalmyk people are most fully represented.

Outstanding professors N.N. Palmov and P.S. Rykov were at the origins of its creation. Through their efforts, the richest archaeological and ethnographic materials were collected, which formed the basis of the first collections of the Kalmyk Museum.

17:30 Invitation to a sightseeing tour of the city center with a tour of the main attractions.

During the tour "Elista – sunny city", we will walk around the city center, spin the prayer drum of the rotunda "Pagoda of Seven Days", walk under the Golden Gate "Altn Bosch", made in the traditions of Buddhist architecture: airy structures, the presence of gold, red, white colors, curved roofs of buildings.

The life story of the Kalmyk people stretches along the Altn Bosch, which the artist Nikolai Borisov put into 28 paintings. By all means, under the ringing of the bell, you need to make a wish, it will definitely come true.

Free evening. Dinner on your own.
