The main square of the city is the heart of Kostroma, its calling card is the Susaninskaya Square, popularly called the "frying pan".

Along the perimeter of the square are the most elegant and representative buildings of the late 19th century classicism era, the fire tower — the best fire tower in the Russian province — is in the northern part of the square, and on the opposite side, on the site of the old auction, there are about 15 stone rows.

And for the first time, a century later, the revived golden dome of the bell tower of the Assumption Cathedral of the former Kostroma Kremlin rises.

Excursion to Kostroma Kremlin "The heart of ancient Kostroma".

A blue-and-white cathedral with a tall bell tower on the banks of the Volga River can be seen from afar. Built in the late Baroque style, the temple is bright and spacious, reminiscent of its predecessor.

The Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God of the XII-XIII centuries is the main shrine of the temple. It is believed that prayer addressed to the icon helps to strengthen family well-being. Another revered shrine is the cross-reliquary, which contains fragments of the relics of 150 saints. Among other relics is a silver panicade restored bit by bit by craftsmen.

The museum also has its own confectionery production, the products of which can be purchased as delicacies or souvenirs.

Holy Trinity Ipatievsky Monastery.

The Holy Trinity Ipatievsky Monastery occupies a special place in the glorious series of spiritual monasteries.

Founded at the beginning of the 14th century in honor of the Holy Trinity and in the name of St. Hypatius, Bishop of Gangra, the monastery is rightfully considered one of the oldest in our Fatherland.

In the 17th century, the Ipatievsky Monastery marked the beginning of the end of the Great Troubles, which threatened the destruction of Russian statehood. In 1613, the monastery sheltered the young Mikhail Romanov within its walls.

Museum of flax and birch bark.

This is one of the most cozy places in Kostroma. It smells of wood, warm linen and handmade. Inside there are antique looms, birch bark boxes, lace, shirts, toys and dozens of items that once were in every peasant house.

This is not a museum "behind glass", but a living estate where you can touch, examine and marvel at crafts that have almost disappeared. Today it is one of the best sites in Russia, where you can see how the craftsmen who were engaged in weaving birch bark and creating linen clothes lived.
