First, you will have to go deeper along the path into the gorge, cross the glacier on the second day, then in two days pass the rocky buttress of the OZD peak and reach the Kazbek glaciers at an altitude of 4,200 m and climb to the top. The ascent follows the route of A. Pastukhov in 1889.

If Kazbek is your first peak, don't worry. The guides are aimed at teaching and helping. Throughout the tour, you will receive recommendations, your well-being and the result of the ascent directly depend on this.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Meeting. Thermal springs
We meet the participants from 8:00 to 11:00 in Mineralnye Vody, at the organizer's office located on the forecourt.
We provide equipment, pack backpacks, and leave unnecessary items with us until you return. The journey to the starting point will take 3.5 hours.
The route starts with a transfer to the Verkhnekarmadon thermal springs, the transit time is 4-5 hours. We set up tents, have dinner, and have a safety briefing.
The distance is 7 km, the journey time is 4-5 hours.

Day 2 - Acclimatization and equipment drop-off at 3100 m
After breakfast, we cross the Kolka stream over the suspension bridge and follow the trail to the Mili Glacier.
We put on our crampons and cross the glacier, pass through part of the buttress of the railway peak and leave the equipment in the tent at an altitude of 3100 m.
We have lunch, relax and enjoy the stunning views of the glacier, because we have risen above it by almost 300 meters.
We go down to our tent camp.
We have dinner, swim in warm baths.
The distance is 6 km, the journey time is 6-7 hours.

Day 3 - Ascent along the trail and cliffs of the buttress of OZD Peak
We are already familiar with part of the route of this day. After climbing to 3,100 m, we pick up the drop and continue climbing, our goal is to park "At the cross" at an altitude of 3,500 m. There is a mobile connection Megafon, Yota.
Tents have already been set up for the participants of the standard plus fare and they carry light backpacks all the way, as their basic equipment and groceries are picked up by a porter/porter.
The guide receives information about the current weather forecast, informs the participants and makes a tactical plan for the next days of the ascent.
The distance is 5 km, the climb is 600 meters, the time is 6-7 hours.

Day 4 - Acclimatization ascent to the peak of the railway 4271 m
Starting the route immediately after breakfast.
In difficult areas, we pre-hang ropes for insurance. We climb to the upper assault camp 4200 m on the Kazbek plateau and then to the top of the OZD peak (4271 m). From here you can enjoy a view of the top of Kazbek.
We always follow the schedule of movement, halts are made every hour so that we can restore our strength and refresh ourselves with hot tea from a thermos and something from pocket food.
Descent at 3500, dinner.
The distance is about 2km, the climb is 700 m, the journey time is 4-6 hours.

Day 5 - Rest day
A day of rest before the assault.
Walking-training for 1-2 hours on a snowy slope. We practice movement and interaction in bundles, self-restraint with the help of an ice axe, and movement techniques on snow and ice slopes of medium steepness.
We collect backpacks for climbing and check the equipment so that the preparations for the assault take as little time as possible.
We have lunch and go to bed early. The ascent is usually at 20:00-22:00.
Day 6 - Kazbek peak climbing 5034 m
The launch of the assault on the top of Kazbek is at about midnight. This is the optimal exit time. Due to weather conditions, you can postpone the exit for no more than 2-3 hours.
It is necessary to climb to the top no more than 12 hours after the exit. Ascent to Kazbek Vostochny, height 5034 m.
Descent to the camp at the Cross at 3500.
The ascent takes up to 12 hours, the distance is 7 km, and the climb is 1,500 meters.
Day 7 - Descent to the thermal baths
Having had a good rest after the assault, we descend along the ascent path to the thermal springs.
Depending on the physical condition of the group members, the descent can take from 5 to 8 hours, and the decision to spend the night or continue the descent and complete the route is made by the guide based on the comfortable and safe pace of movement of the group.
Day 8 - Departure
Descent along the trail to the border checkpoint.
Transfer to Mineralnye Vody. Participants hand over their rental equipment, receive certificates and numbered headlight badges about the perfect ascent.
Day 9 - Reserve day in case of bad weather
Backup in case of bad weather. The tour may end earlier and you will already be home that day.
On the last day, arrive in Mineralnye Vody at 15:00.

Tour organizer's comments

According to the mountaineering classification, the route is rated as 2B. This is higher than Elbrus 1A from the south and Elbrus 2A from the north.

Technically, the route is more complicated, there are several sections on which cables and safety ropes are hung.

With the "standard" tariff, the need to carry all food, bivouac and equipment to the assault camp and back adds complexity. At the start, the weight of the backpack is about 25 kg. There is a porter service at the standard plus tariff.

At the same time, mountain sickness is not so acute on Kazbek, since the height of the peak is much lower — 5033 m above sea level.

From the first day of the ascent, the guides will teach you the technique. Training sessions are conducted before the summit is stormed.
