From the North to Elbrus. Climbing

Elbrus, the highest peak of the Caucasus, Russia and Europe, the height of the Western peak is 5642 meters, the Eastern peak is 5621 meters, when climbing from the North, they most often climb to the Eastern peak – this is the route of the first ascenders to Elbrus. 

Climbing Elbrus from the North is technically simple and suitable even for beginners, people coming to climb Elbrus for the first time. The tour differs in that long distances must be traveled independently, there is no cable car and other equipment.

For climbing, we issue certificates and license plates established by the FAR.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Meeting. Emmanuel's Clearing

    We will meet in Mineralnye Vody at the airport and at the railway station, and drive through Kislovodsk by SUV.

    We are moving to the Jily-Su tract.

    The base camp is located in Emmanuel's glade at an altitude of 2,600 meters.

    After organizing your daily routine, you can take a walk, get water from the narzan springs, and make friends with ground squirrels.

    Both peaks of Elbrus are clearly visible from the clearing.

Personal equipment you need for the tour

Documents

  • passport;
  • compulsory medical insurance policy;

Camping equipment

  • A backpack of 65-80 liters with a rigid back and the ability to attach a mat and an ice axe outside. Rain cover for a backpack (rent for 9 days – 300 rubles/day). An assault backpack should have an ice axe mount, the presence of a frame is not essential.; 
  • You can't do without a sleeping bag in the shelter. The comfort temperature is -5.... -10 C, preferably with synthetic filler (rent for 5 days is 300 rubles/day.);
  • Trekking poles (rent for 9 days – 150 rub/day);
  • Tourist mat (karemat, foam) (rent for 5 days – 40 RUB/day). The mat will not be superfluous, it can be used for camping, etc.;
  • Tent (rent 600 rubles/day);

Climbing equipment

  • Sports glasses or ski mask, UV protection factor 3 or more (rent a ski mask for 4-5 days – 120 rubles/day);
  • Backpack of 25-35 liters for climbing (rent for 4-5 days – 150 rubles/day); 
  • Soft-mount cats (provided);
  • Helmet (provided);
  • Safety gazebo, two carabiners, self-insurance (provided);
  • Ice axe (used for self-insurance when climbing to the top) (provided);

Trekking clothes day 1-4

  • T-shirt;
  • Medium-density thermal T-shirt with long sleeves;
  • Thermal pants;
  • Warm fleece jacket (rent for 9 days – 200 rub/day);
  • Wind and moisture-proof jacket with hood. If the jacket can get wet, then there is also a raincoat (rent a membrane jacket for 9 days – 400-600 rubles/day);
  • Wind- and moisture–proof pants, preferably with a membrane (rent of membrane pants for 9 days - 300 rubles/day);
  • Trekking boots or sneakers. They can also be used for climbing (rent for 4-9 days – 400 rubles/day);
  • Warm hat;
  • Thin gloves 2 pairs;
  • Panama hat, cap or buff, for sun protection;
  • Hiking (trekking) socks 2-3 pairs;
  • Sandals or light running shoes for the camp;
  • Swimming trunks or a swimsuit;

Climbing clothes day 5-9

  • A lightweight down jacket with a hood, should be worn under a windproof jacket (rent for 4-9 days – 300 rubles/day);
  • A high–rise puffer jacket is required in spring and autumn above 5,000 meters (rent for 4-5 days is 400 rubles/day);
  • Insulated climbing boots (rent of plastic double boots for 4-5 days – 400-600 rubles / day); Climbing shoes should be single-layer with overshoes, or double-layer, sneakers will not fit in any way.
  • Overshoes are insulated, they allow you to use trekking boots on climbing (rent for 4-5 days – 150 rubles/day);
  • Gaiters for feet from snow and mud getting into shoes (rent for 4-5 days – 100 rubles/day);
  • Mask, buff or balaclava to protect your face from the wind;
  • Warm, windproof gloves, preferably mittens (rent 4-5 days – 150 RUB/day);

Other

  • A headlamp with 1 battery pack (rent for 4-9 days – 100 rubles/day);
  • Hygiene products: soap, shampoo probe, toothpaste and brush, toilet paper, towel (not large),wet wipes;
  • Mug, spoon, bowl, knife. Plastic or metal;
  • Thermos flask. 500-800 ml. (rent of a 700 ml thermos flask for 4-9 days – 100 rubles/day);
  • A water bottle. 0.5-1 liter;
  • A car seat (preferably) (rent for 4-9 days – 20 rub/day)
  • Packages of 100-120 liters 2 pcs. Additional protection of things in the backpack from getting wet;
  • Photo camera;

Personal first aid kit

  • Hygienic lipstick (protection against chapping of the lips, preferably sunscreen);
  • Sunscreen (maximum protection);
  • Vitamins, preferably in effervescent tablets;
  • Aspirin, preferably in effervescent tablets;
  • Paracetamol;
  • Band-aid (to seal the feet to prevent calluses);
  • From an upset stomach;
  • Medicines for their illnesses.
