To Teriberka. A weekend in the Arctic

Special training is not required, but it is worth remembering that the tour program provides for long hikes in difficult weather and climatic conditions (low temperatures from 0 °C to -15 °With and strong winds).

You should pay special attention to collecting equipment and take our recommendations regarding this issue seriously.

We do not recommend taking children under the age of 12 on this tour. Teenagers between the ages of 12 and 18 can only participate if accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Drinking alcoholic beverages on our tours and using drugs are not welcome. This is both a security measure and a measure of cultural recreation

Murmansk is home to Murmashi Airport, where planes fly from different regions of Russia, including Moscow and St. Petersburg. You can also get to the meeting place of the group in Murmansk by train or by car. Our tour starts in Murmansk, at the Five Corners Square, from where we take the participants to Teriberka by minibus.

In order not to be late for the start of the tour, participants need to arrive in Murmansk no later than an hour before the meeting time. A similar rule also works for the purchase of return tickets from Murmansk: you should take tickets no earlier than 2 hours after the end of the tour.

It happens that the road to Teriberka is covered with snow, as a result of which it is not possible to enter and leave the village.

Usually, the most difficult months in terms of road closures are February, March and April. Often, the road is cleared in 6-12 hours, but it happened that Teriberka was cut off from the mainland for 3-7 days. This is an extremely unlikely development, however, we strongly recommend that you do not buy return tickets before your actual return to Murmansk from Teriberka.

If the tour group finds itself blocked in Teriberka due to the closure of the road for more than a day and is forced to spend the night in the village, then accommodation for subsequent nights and meals are paid by the participants themselves.

If a tourist group cannot get to Teriberka from Murmansk, then we offer an alternative program in Murmansk, waiting for the opening of the road to Teriberka. And if the road does not open for more than a day from the start of the tour, then we discuss with the participants the refund of the money paid for participation in the tour, minus the actual expenses incurred for the organization.

Myths about the fact that the aurora can be seen only in January or only when the weather is frosty — we will immediately put aside.

It is important to understand the nature of the aurora — this is the glow of the upper atmosphere, resulting from the interaction of the Earth's magnetosphere with charged particles of the solar wind.

What does this tell us? It's simple: it should be dark (just completely dark, i.e. night), there should be no clouds, otherwise we simply won't see any "upper layers" and, of course, the sun should work hard.

If all these factors add up, then the aurora can be observed at the latitude of Teriberka from mid-September to early April.

There are programs for smartphones in which, based on data about the sun, short- and long-term forecasts of the probability of the appearance of the aurora are formed, but it is important to understand that these are only forecasts.

No one can guarantee that you will see the northern Lights on your trip.
