Itinerary

Day 1 - The beginning of the rafting. Padun Threshold, Sredneye Kapustnoe Lake
We will meet in Apatity at the railway station at 10:00.
The transfer takes about 1 hour.
On the way to the village of Oktyabrsky, we reach the automobile bridge.
We assemble catamarans on the shore and have breakfast.
We go through the briefing, break up into catamarans.
All personal belongings of the participants are packed in air bags.
It is necessary to walk 8 km to the first Padun threshold (3-4 km), which usually takes about an hour and a half.
The threshold is about 1 kilometer long and consists of several steps.
The first stage is a ten—meter water slide with a drop of about 2 meters, after which the entire water flow accelerates significantly.
Next is a long second stage with shafts of 1-1.5 meters each and a fast jet.
And the third stage is a series of large shafts and barrels on a 300—meter section formed by three ridges that block the path of the jet. There is a shallow shiver at the exit.
After Padun, after going through several rifts, we go out to the Upper Cabbage Lake, which is 3 kilometers away.
The lake is quite shallow, the shores are mostly low, sandy, overgrown with firs and pines.
Walk along the lake for about 5 km to the left channel in the Middle Cabbage Lake.
In the channel there is a powerful Upper Kapustny threshold (2 k.s.), which begins with a powerful narrow stream with good shafts and a gate with stones at the outlet.
We get up for the night in the middle Cabbage Lake.
Running time: 4 hours.

Distance traveled: 20 km.
Day 2 - Lower Cabbage Lake, Robber threshold
The average Cabbage lake is about 4 km long, the shores are low.
The remains of an old wooden bridge have been preserved in the strait connecting the Middle and Lower Kapustnoye Lakes.
We walk along the Lower Lake for about 4 km before the beginning of the river. The lake is very shallow, the bottom is sandy, the water is clear.
After 1.5 kilometers, we pass several rolling hills and a shiver.
After a small spill, the threshold of 2-3 k.s. Robber begins.
The threshold is about 1 kilometer long, the riverbed is wide, there are many stones, shafts and small barrels.
After 500 meters, the riverbed narrows, and the barrels become noticeably stronger.
After the Robber, there are several good stops in the pine forest.
Overnight on the left bank.
Running time: 3 hours.

Day 3 - Sevenfold threshold, Pearl Reach
After passing through two small spills called Dedkovy Lambinas, we go out into the big Dedkovy Lambina.
After a few kilometers we pass the remains of the old bridge.
After a few more kilometers, the Seven-Finger Threshold (1-2 kilometers) begins with a length of about 7 km.
It consists of a dozen steps, only two steps are of significant interest, the rest are shivers and a quick current among the stones.
After Semiverstny, the beautiful Pearl Reach begins, its length is 3-4 km, the river flows among high sandy shores overgrown with pine trees.
The place is really beautiful, with good parking along the shores.

Day 4 - Karezhka-1 and Karezhka-2 thresholds, Karelian threshold, Kanozero
After Zhemchuzhny Ples, we pass two rapids (1 k.s.) Karezhka-1 and Karezhka-2, after which the long Karelian threshold (2 k.s.) begins about 1 kilometer long.
The threshold consists of a wide gate with local shafts and barrels, and there are a lot of surface stones in it.
After another couple of kilometers, we will pass the beautiful and interesting Kanozersky threshold (3 k.s.) — multi-stage, more than 1 kilometer long.
In the first part of the threshold, the jet winds through piles of stones, forming powerful barrels.
Further on, the river becomes wider and shallower and spreads into several channels that flow into Kanozero, a huge beautiful lake.
Ancient petroglyphs have been discovered on the shores and islands of Kanozera.

We walk along the Kanozero under the engine for about 22 km.
On the way, we will visit Rocky Island, where the staff of the Museum of Kanozera petroglyphs conducts a tour of the ancient petroglyphs of Kanozera. They are guarded, parking is prohibited there.
We will stand on one of the sandy beaches near the exit of the Canozera.
The lake is huge, its opposite shore is hidden behind the horizon, and the islands often seem to hang in the air above the water surface, forming interesting mirages.

Day 5 - The day
The diary.
We are making a tourist bathhouse on Kanozera.
Meals: breakfast, lunch/snack and dinner.
Overnight stay: in tents.
Day 6 - Rodving Channel, Bolshoy and Maly Krivets rapids
The Umba flows out of Kanozera by two channels – the Kitsa and Rodvinga rivers, we will follow the Rodvinga.
There are small ripples before the Ponchozer, but mostly the Rodving is calm.
After leaving the Ponchozer, a powerful and very long (about 3 kilometers) Bolshaya Krivets threshold begins (2-3 kilometers).
An endless series of shafts, barrels and clamps.
After a small stretch, we pass the Maly Krivets, which is a direct stream.
Running time: 4 hours.
Meals: breakfast, lunch/snack and dinner.
Overnight stay: in tents.
Distance traveled: 15 km.

Day 7 - Bear's reach, Soldering iron threshold, Sea threshold, departure
We pass stationary fishing nets that block the entire river. They are installed to control the number of salmon, because the Umba is a spawning river.
After the nets, the Umba is narrow enough and fast enough to reach the village of Pogost, from which begins a large Bear patch, which we go under the engine.
The reach stretches to the concrete bridge of the Umba-Kandalaksha highway.
3-4 km below the bridge, the Soldering Iron threshold begins 3-4 k.s. One of the most powerful and beautiful rapids on the river, the threshold consists of two steps separated by a small spill.
The first is 250-300 meters with the most powerful shafts, and the second is 150 meters with even more powerful shafts and barrels.
Literally 200 meters after Soldering, we pass a simple threshold from a huge height with a shaft. And 500 meters later, after the automobile bridge in the village. Old Umba, we pass the threshold of the Sea.
Transfer 130 km to Kandalaksha, from where you can take evening and night trains.
Arrival at the Kandalaksha railway station is approximately at 19:00.

No special training is required for rafting on the Umba, but at least basic physical training is needed. You will spend 7 days on one of the largest rivers of the Kola. The most serious and interesting threshold consists of four steps, and each one ends with a small waterfall.

It's important to know

During catamaran rafting, we pack all our belongings in hermetic bags (80-100 liters), so things should be only the most necessary and compact. We put them in bags without bags and backpacks (they can be left in the transfer car or folded separately).

1. Parking equipment:

A mat and a sleeping bag (comfort 0C and below) – if your own. If not, then the equipment is included in the price.
Tent. If not, then the equipment is included in the price.
The tourist seat.
Personal tableware (KLMN) is not bulky, ideally it is collapsible. If not, then the equipment is included in the price.

2. Clothes and shoes.

2.1. Sleep clothes.

A set of thermal underwear makes sleeping more comfortable in warm cotton, you may also need a hat, warm comfortable socks (or fleece socks).

2.2. The clothes we wear on the catamaran. Such clothes can be wet.

On top is a jacket or a windproof/waterproof, splash–proof jacket. Under the jacket, we wear either a fleece jacket or an insulating layer made of another synthetic material. You can also wear the same waterproof trousers with synthetic thermal underwear underneath. Splash-proof jacket and trousers can be rented from us.
Dry (drysuit) or neoprene wetsuit. If it's neoprene, then ideally up to 3 mm. A top layer must also be put on top of the neoprene.
Neoprene gloves and sneakers. If you don't have them, we'll give them to you.
It is worth taking a synthetic quick-drying cap with you.
Headdress (cap, panama hat, beanie).

2.3. The costume for the camp

A membrane jacket or poncho.
The trousers are either membrane or quick-drying.
Thermal underwear.
T-shirt.
A "fleece" or a sweatshirt.
A warm jacket (or a set of second warm thermal underwear for a membrane jacket).
Trekking socks 1 pair, regular socks 2-3 pairs, 1 pair warm.

A personal small first–aid kit (personal medicines, antipruritic drugs, Band-Aids, activated charcoal, enzymes - it all depends on the characteristics of your body, which you probably know). In addition to a personal first-aid kit, there will be a group one, but it won't hurt to have your own.
Hand cream.
Documents (in a waterproof box or case):
- a copy of your passport and a photo on your phone, or with you in your waterproof packaging;
- medical insurance policy;
- money for unexpected expenses.

Description of the obstacles on the tourist route:

The Padun threshold is 800 m long. The 1st step is a long steep water slide with a barrel. Stage 2 is a chain of shafts. Stage 3 – 3 powerful barrels Upper Kapustny threshold Shallow shiver 300 meters
The Robber threshold is a fairly powerful 500m shiver. in the middle it is divided by islands into 3 channels. Go to the middle school.
The Seven-hair threshold is 7km long, with a chain of rolling hills and shivers.
Rollover Karezhka 1 – 1 K.S.
Rollover Karezhka 2 – 1 K.S.
The Karelian sill is a Shiver with pouring stones about 1 km. it is powerful at the beginning with a shoal at the end
The Kanozersky Threshold is a section of the river with a good drop, at the beginning of which the bedrock slabs protrude in the center. Next is a shiver with a lot of pouring stones. There is an island in the center near the end of the threshold. To the left of it is a drain of about 0.7 m, to the right is a shallow shiver. The threshold of the Krivets S-shaped gate is 500m.
The threshold of the Padun on Nizma or Nizma step is a drain of about 1m with a long and sharp tongue and a barrel. There are quite high ramparts further on.
Soldering Iron threshold At the confluence of the channel behind the island, a stone ridge sticks out of the water. There is more water in the right channel and the main stream runs along the ridge of stones forming 2 high shafts.
The Gorka threshold is a rocky slide on a straight section of the river – a powerful shiver with a lot of stones. The threshold length is 250 m. on the left is a low ridge wall.
The threshold of the Sea is a 2-step gate.
