Breakfast.
11:00 Walking tour to the active male monastery "Nilova Pustyn: monastery on the island and winter Seliger". You will visit the picturesque island of Stolbny, where the relics of St. Nile, a fragment of the relics of St. Spyridon of Trimifunt and miraculous icons are kept.
In the Epiphany Church you will see a large—scale painting of the 19th century with images of the Fatherland and archangels - the work of local icon painters.
You will learn the unusual history of the temple: the project of architect I. Charlemagne, who participated in the competition for St. Isaac's Cathedral, was implemented here by the will of Emperor Alexander I.
You will also explore the main cathedral square and the fraternal building, a rare example of provincial Gothic style.
After the tour, you can have free time to climb the bell tower, walk around the island, relax, visit the museum of the Nile Desert, the monastery pharmacy, etc.
A separate part of the program is a story about Seliger: the origin of the name, relief, depths, islands (Gorodomlya, Khachin, Robber) and related legends.
In winter, the lake is covered with strong ice — and there is a rare opportunity to walk along the surface of Seliger, visit different islands and experience the beauty of the Russian winter.
15:00 Lunch at the Lazurny restaurant.
Bus tour of Ostashkov, a city of fishermen, tanners and even mathematicians. Ostashkov turned 655 years old — this is a distinctive provincial town in the south of Seliger, where the history of Russia comes to life.
A peculiar feature of Ostashkov is the feeling that he is standing right on the water. There are wooden houses of the 19th century, stone temples, as well as houses with lions and Atlanteans in the city.
The typical urban layout of cities from the era of Catherine the Great has been preserved here.
We will see the Ascension Cathedral of the 19th century, architecturally reminiscent of a Russian terem: its elegant lines, rich decorative elements and special harmony create a unique appearance.
Inside the cathedral are ancient icons from ancient Greek monasteries, including from Mount Athos, a touching sculpture of Christ in prison, a rare 19th–century image for Orthodox churches, and colorful paintings of archangels under the main arches.
Next, we will go to the Zhitnoye peninsula, where the Bogoroditsky Monastery has been located since the 18th century. The miraculous Smolensk Icon, the heavenly patroness of Ostashkov, is kept here.
According to legend, it survived the terrible fire of 1711, and before that it was located above the main gate of the Ostashkovsky fortress, protecting the city. Here you can also buy local souvenirs: tea from the Tsar's court, cheese and sausage.
Return to the hotel. Free time.
