Day 1 - Arrival. The Darkness

Arrival in Vologda before 09:00.
Meeting with the guide at the appointed place no earlier than 08:30-09:00.

12:10 p.m. Visit to the historical and landscape area "Old Usolye" in the village of Varnitsy near Totma, where a salt factory was located earlier in the XV-XIX centuries.
The tour will allow you to learn the secrets of medieval salt industry technology, admire the natural landscapes and one of the best examples of the "Totemic Baroque" (the Church of the Resurrection of Christ), touch the monuments of engineering (pickle lifting pipes), try to get a bucket of brine from the well and taste it.
13:30 Lunch.
14:10 Sightseeing tour of the city "Small town with a long history" will take travelers to the provincial streets of the county town, discover the amazingly beautiful temples made in the architectural style of "Totem Baroque", tell you what cartouches are and why they made Totma famous all over the world.
16:15 Excursion to the Museum of Sailors, which is located in the most recognizable place of the city.
No tourist can pass by this majestic building.
Built at the expense of Totem merchant companions, sailors Gregory and Peter Panov, the entrance to the Jerusalem temple-a ship with a bell tower-mast is considered one of the peaks of the northern Baroque.
17:15 Guided tour of the reborn monastery of the Savior-Sumorin Monastery (O. 1554) – one of the most beautiful monastic ensembles in Vologda region with a rich past, inspired by poet Nikolai Rubtsov and artist Vladimir Korbakov, located on the arrow of the Kovda and Pesya-Money rivers.
The Empire-style turret of the monastery fence has been preserved in a ruined form on the bank of Pesya-Money, and the monastery belfry operates on it.
18:30 Departure to Vologda (200 km).

11:00 a.m. Visit to the only site on the territory of the Vologda Region from the UNESCO World Heritage List – the Ferapontov Monastery, an exceptionally well–preserved Orthodox monastery complex of the XV-XVII centuries, a period of great importance for the formation of a centralized Russian state and the development of its culture.
A thematic tour of the complex with a visit to the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin and acquaintance with the surviving paintings of Dionysius, the main Russian painter of the turn of the XV–XVI centuries.

14:00 Visit to the largest functioning Orthodox monastery, the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery.
Sightseeing tour of the territory of the "sovereign fortress" of Ivan the Terrible with an inspection of architectural monuments of the XV-XVIII centuries. Visit to the Monastic Cell exhibition and the Assumption Cathedral.
