08:00 Wake up, morning treatments.
09:00 Hot breakfast (according to the menu).
At the request of the expedition participants, the breakfast time can be planned in advance.
Packing of equipment (personal items, groceries, camping equipment and fuel).
Linking equipment to the trunk of ATVs. Briefing, test passes, ATV inspection.
11:00 a.m. Start of the expedition in the direction of Dyatlov Pass – to the Mansiysk national village of Ushma.
On the way, a group of quad cyclists fords several mountain rivers – Vizhai, Toshemka, Ushma. On rainy days, such crossings are a serious challenge: both the current is fast and the water level is high. In this case, experienced guides, using their knowledge of the route, indicate the places for the transfer of equipment along the most optimal route or use auxiliary means - inflatable gondolas.
The route of the ATV tour to Dyatlov Pass runs along a remote taiga all-terrain road.
The first part of the route ends in the national Mansiysk village of Ushma (60 km from the starting point), which is a compound of several residential buildings located on both banks of the taiga Lozva River, standing interspersed with sagging log cabins and traditional "huts on chicken legs."
There are no fences or vegetable gardens in Ushma. Mansi people do not engage in agriculture, but live solely by hunting.
Men are engaged in fishing in the forest in search of game, and women are engaged in raising children, dressing hides, making products and souvenirs: shoes (unts and burkas), baskets (tuyaskas), clothes (malitsa, hats) and other items for household use, fishing and hunting (dolls, spoons, plates, camus skiing).
One of the attractions of this place is the remains of the first penal colony in the USSR, where the liberated prisoners lived.
In Soviet times, there was a sawmill, a sauna, a bakery, and a park with children's swings and flower beds.
Since the end of the 70s, the colony has ceased to exist, the inhabitants of the village have left these places due to lack of work and prospects. At the moment, the remains of the village make a depressing impression: destroyed and abandoned houses, the remains of a cattle yard and piles of twisted metal.
15:00-16:00 Rest and lunch in a clearing in a bend of the river.
After a short break, the team continues north to the base camp located at the beginning of the ascent to the pass.
The final part of the road passes through old trails packed with all-terrain vehicles. With additional coordination, depending on the weather conditions and the water situation in mountain rivers, if the group passes river fords and crossings without additional difficulties, the expedition participants have time to visit the foot of the Chistop ridge.
This mountain is one of the most mysterious places in the Northern Urals: the strongest electromagnetic anomalies are observed here, local residents tell about dozens of cases of encounters with ball lightning.
The ascent by ATV uphill is very difficult, if desired, travelers on foot can climb to the observation deck of the Chistop ridge on their own.
The highest point of the Chistop ridge, on which the observation deck is located, is 1,292 m.
Chistop is not just a mountain, it is an abandoned military facility: a radar station with a military unit guarding it, located at the foot. The dome's foundation and the remains of destroyed outbuildings have been preserved.
The outlines of medieval castles can be seen in the rocks of Chistop Mountain, towering over the plain of the plateau, and the ruins of the radar station on the approach look a little intimidating – among the huge gray stone mounds, the remains of white tents shining in the sun seem like alien buildings. From the top there is a stunning view of the vast and vast world around.
19:00 (20:00) Arrival at the parking lot called "Ilyich's hut" or "Ilyich's base".
Earlier, during the time of the state farms, it was a nut-fishing base. The pine nuts were harvested in a mighty old cedar grove about five kilometers away. The base is located in a picturesque location: around a high-trunked pine forest, on the river there is a vast ples, where the watchman of the geological party Ilyich once fished.
Geologists have long since left these places, but the name of the place remains.
20:00-22:00 Unpacking of personal belongings, setting up a mobile camp for the night (installation of tents and a campfire tent), collective harvesting of firewood for the evening campfire and night gathering.
22:00 Taiga dinner on the river bank. Rest. Communication of travelers around the evening campfire, planning the further route of the expedition.
Lights out at 24:00. Overnight on the banks of the Lozva River, Northern Urals, Sverdlovsk region.
The expedition members relax in their own or club tents, sleep on tourist mats in insulated sleeping bags.
The distance of the off-road part of the route is from 90 to 120 km.
